26th Daejeon International Music Festival: 20th Century Music from America and Europe

[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION] <20th Century Music of America and Europe> TCU Duo Recital Through representative 20th-century violin-piano repertoire from America and Europe, violinist Lee Hye-lim and pianist Michael Bukhman present the most concentrated artistic dialogue that the chamber music genre has to offer, demonstrating how a century of musical language has expanded and transformed. Both artists bring their own distinguished international careers and profound musical interpretations to the stage. The program opens with Korngold's "Much Ado About Nothing" Suite, unveiling a dramatic and cinematic musical world based on Shakespeare's comedy. Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 follows, combining jazz elements with contemporary sensibility, leaving a striking impression particularly through the unique emotion of the blues movement and the dynamic energy of the final movement. Next comes Messiaen's Theme and Variations, which begins with a simple theme and expands layers of time and emotion through diverse variations. Concluding the program is Respighi's Violin Sonata, capturing the rich colors and lyricism of late Romanticism while demonstrating an aesthetic balance between the classical and modern. This program traces a journey where different cultures and musical languages intersect on a single stage, intensively highlighting the diversity and depth inherent in 20th-century chamber music.
