[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION]
Roman Kim Violin Recital
Russian-born violinist Roman Kim is a performer who attracts attention for his overwhelming technique and original interpretation, earning him the title "Paganini of the 21st Century." His performances, which combine explosive energy with refined technical mastery, leave a strong impression even among contemporary musicians, demonstrating exceptional interpretive ability particularly in the Paganini repertoire. As a fourth-generation Koryo-saram (ethnic Korean from the former Soviet Union) who grew up in a musical family, he studied at the Moscow Central Music School and Cologne University of Music under world-renowned masters. Beyond performance, he has expanded his artistic scope to include composition, arrangement, and instrumental and acoustic experimentation. His musical world, which continuously explores new sounds without remaining bound by tradition, is presenting a new direction for contemporary violin art.
Beginning with Tartini's "Teufelstriller (Devil's Trill)," which demands superhuman technique and dramatic expressivity, he expands the boundaries of the violin through his performance of such a challenging work. This is followed by Roman Kim's own compositions—"Valse pour Ana," "Cri de l'Âme," and "Sanctus et Agnus Dei"—expressed through diverse musical languages. Finally, Paganini's "La Campanella" brings the first half to a powerful close with brilliant technique and tension. The second half begins with Chausson's "Poème," characterized by deep and lyrical melody, followed by Roman Kim's "Romance in B Major," "Romance in G♭ Major," and "I Brindisi." The program concludes with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Eine kleine Nacht Musik," presented in Roman Kim's own arrangement.
Traditional violin repertoire, contemporary composition, and arrangement flow together to present Roman Kim's unique musical world in a multidimensional way. Through superhuman technical mastery, experimental interpretation, and powerful stage presence, he will offer audiences new possibilities and an expanded artistic horizon in violin music.
