[About the Performance] Ensemble Syn's 4th Regular Concert. Schubert's is a quiet encounter with the end of life. This piece contains fear of death, resistance, and acceptance. A pitiful maiden, struggling and resisting against the approaching call of the grim reaper, hesitantly approaches with a trembling voice saying, "I am too young to accept you," but the reaper whispers in a cold yet seductive voice, "Sleep peacefully in my embrace." While connects death and life by passively accepting death, Schumann's Piano Quintet boldly presents a funeral march dedicated to the end of a fierce life, actively placing death as an extension of life. The piano and strings converse freely between life and death without boundaries, becoming intoxicated in the language of love as a romantic atmosphere ripens. These two works wear different faces, yet ask the same question. "What are we connected to as we live?" The connection with an inescapable fate, and the connection toward one another. If the moments in the music of this performance remain in your memories and emotions, that too will become one 'connection.'
