A Dog of Flanders [Geumcheon, Seoul]

[Performance Introduction] Young Nero lives a poor but happy life helping his grandfather who delivers milk. Nero's dream is to become a painter and to see Rubens' painting in the cathedral. One day, Nero and his grandfather bring home Patrasche, a dog they find abandoned and collapsed at a junkyard, and nurse him back to health. Nero has a friend named Alois, the daughter of a wealthy grain merchant. The two spend happy times together drawing pictures with Patrasche, but Alois's father disapproves of poor Nero and forbids them from being friends. Meanwhile, Nero's ailing grandfather passes away, and Nero struggles through his days delivering milk with Patrasche. He fails to win the art competition he had been hoping for and is eventually evicted from his home, left with nowhere to go. During a cold winter, wandering Nero accidentally finds and returns the wallet of Alois's father, then entrusts Patrasche to Alois and disappears... What will become of Nero and Patrasche's fate?
