Daejeon World Art Song Festival, Schwanengesang

[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION] The "2026 Daejeon World Art Song Festival" has been organized to convey beauty, genuine comfort, and rich artistic imagination to audiences navigating contemporary society through art songs, which represent the meeting of refined poetry and music. Through poetry and music that delicately examine the human inner self, we aim to realize the essential value of art songs on stage and share healthy cultural sensibility and poetic depth with Daejeon citizens. This performance will showcase "Schwanengesang (Swan Song)," one of Franz Schubert's representative song cycles. "Swan Song," a collection of Schubert's final works, is a masterpiece that deeply captures love and separation, longing and solitude, and the inner world of nature and humanity, showcasing the essence of German Romantic art songs. Pianist Soo-Young Noh and baritone Seung-Wook Sung aim to present Schubert's poetic and beautiful musical world through delicate musical phrasing and profound interpretation. Through the unique beauty of art songs where voice and piano engage in intimate dialogue and expand poetic language into music, we hope to convey deep resonance to audiences. We hope this performance will introduce the beauty of Schubert's art songs more closely to Daejeon citizens and provide an opportunity to continuously enjoy high-quality art songs in the region. Furthermore, we wish for this to be a meaningful time where audiences rediscover the emotions and imagination temporarily forgotten in daily life through the special moment when poetry and music become one.
