[Performance Introduction]
Two Worlds United by Love, Longing, and Song
The deep emotions of Korean art songs and the beautiful love stories within opera meet on a single stage.
This concert brings together Korean art songs familiar to us, arias from Italian and French operas, and beautiful duets to sing of love, longing, waiting, and the moments of life.
In Part One, we encounter the delicate and warm sentiments of Korean art songs such as "Majoong" and "Flowers in the Clouds," alongside the love and longing of women in opera through Mozart's "Dove sono," "Porgi amor," and Rossini's "Sull'aria." Though these works are in different languages and bear distinct musical colors, the emotions they contain are remarkably similar.
In Part Two, through "Water Lily," "Arirang," and "Longing for Mount Geumgang," we revisit the longing and beauty cherished in the Korean heart, and continue deeper and more dramatic love stories through operatic arias and duets. Particularly in Verdi's "Pace, pace mio Dio," we can feel poignant yearning and prayer, and in the duet performed by two vocalists, the affection toward one another and musical breath resonate.
The lyricism of Korean art songs and the dramatic emotion of opera.
The harmony created when two vocalists' voices meet.
Though languages and eras differ, the power of song to move the human heart remains one and the same.
We hope this performance becomes a warm moment for you to recall love and longing that you may have forgotten, and to face one another's hearts through music.
