About
[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION]
Musicians who graduated from Seongmo Elementary School, which has long been part of Daejeon's music history and served as a cradle for musicians, gather in one place. This June, under the title of "Homecoming Concert," musicians active throughout the country, including in Daejeon and Seoul, return to their hometown of Daejeon. Approximately 30 musicians who have come together for this recital at the Art Hall of Daejeon Arts Center continue to make distinctive musical contributions to both Daejeon and Korea's music scene.
Featured performers include violinist Im Kyung-won, a major pillar of Daejeon's string music scene; pianist Noh Kyung-a, who possesses musical refinement; violinists Yu Si-yeon and Cho In-sang, with their free-spirited approach; baritone Cho Byung-joo, with solid musicality and expressive power; and cellist Yang Sun-won and Lee Sang-kyung, whose outstanding musical inspiration stands out, among many other accomplished performers.
The program spans various configurations from flute and piano to vocals, trumpet ensemble, string quartet, and chamber orchestra, presenting a stage that encompasses classical through romantic to 20th-century works and familiar repertoire. Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" Flute Quartet delivers fairy-tale melodies in clear tones, while Corigliano's Gazebo Dances showcases the charm of cheerful rhythms and vibrant piano duo. The vocal performances feature Donizetti operatic arias followed by baritone Cho Byung-joo's original composition, adding diverse musical colors. Saint-Saëns' rare Septet and Dvořák's "America" String Quartet offer the depth and structural beauty of chamber music. The flute ensemble's "The Sound of Music" and Grieg's "Holberg Suite" convey both familiarity and classical elegance. Finally, the concert concludes with "Song of Friendship," featuring vocals and chamber music together, as different musical pieces blend into one resonant harmony.
It would be wonderful to experience this beautiful concert featuring diverse and brilliant works.
