About

[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION] Cellist Lee Won-hae of the Novus Quartet, a world-renowned string quartet that has written the history of Korean chamber music, and pianist Choi Hyung-rok, who won first prize at the 7th Sendai International Music Competition in Japan and has received high acclaim for his distinctive sound, present their second duo performance. In September 2024, the two musicians showcased a cello repertoire composed of works by three Romantic composers—Schumann, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. On this stage, the two artists present the essence of Romanticism through the dialogue between cello and piano via works by Clara Schumann and Brahms. Cellist Lee Won-hae performs as a member of the Novus Quartet and has captivated audiences through his beautiful tone and technique while demonstrating his chamber music sensibility through a complete performance cycle of Beethoven's string quartets. After serving as associate principal cellist of the Pays de la Loire National Orchestra for five years, he continues to actively perform in Korea as a soloist in both concerto and solo recitals. Pianist Choi Hyung-rok, known as "the healing pianist," possesses a delicate and flexible musical palette and has demonstrated excellence in interpreting Romantic music. With the musical inspiration of these two artists converging, great anticipation surrounds the works of Clara Schumann and Brahms that they will perform. On October 18th, experience the musical dialogue brought to life by Lee Won-hae and Choi Hyung-rok at the IBK Corporate Bank Chamber Hall, Seoul Arts Center. [PROGRAM] C. W.
