Lee Yeo-kyung Piano Recital

[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION] The Geometry of Music II: NOTATION Pianist Lee Yeo-kyung will hold a piano recital on August 12th at Kunho Art Hall Yonsei under the theme of "The Geometry of Music II: NOTATION." Through the performance, she presents a multifaceted perspective on the precise structure and design inherent in music. Just as geometry is connected through the relationships of points, lines, and planes, this project stems from the viewpoint that music likewise constructs its world organically through notes, rhythm, and harmony. In the first series of 2024, the theme was 'transformation,' exploring how musical forms were altered through various methods. In this performance, the theme is 'Notation.' Through the composers' notation inscribed on musical scores, the concert examines how the inspiration, emotion, and reality and contemplation envisioned by composers are expressed through notes. This performance becomes a journey where pianist Lee Yeo-kyung directly decodes these traces of imprinting and realizes them as sound. Pianist Lee Yeo-kyung presents a program where composers engrave the real world onto sheet music through Notation and construct its traces as geometric structures. Ligeti imprinted the process of 'how sound is formed into structure' through open string motifs and repeated patterns, Chopin recorded the undulation of waves through rhythm and melody, and Bach/Busoni's Chaconne completes an architectural form by persistently building upon an identical motif. Mussorgsky substituted actual scenes with musical notes to realize musical painting. Through the process of realizing as sound the notational records that each composer inscribed with geometric order, pianist Lee Yeo-kyung proposes a new approach to experiencing music. Furthermore, she continues to explore various processes of realizing notes within structure as sound, seeking to discover the infinite possibilities that music possesses. Within meticulously designed music, the emotions one will feel through the live performance of pianist Lee Yeo-kyung become a genuine record that we must revisit in today's world. [Program] G.
