[About the CONCERT]
On the 270th Anniversary of Mozart's Birth
A Pilgrimage to Mozart
100 Minutes of Wonder on Stage, Curated by Pianist Yunchan Lim
Amidst the flood of performances by renowned international orchestras visiting Korea each year, a special stage arrives that can only be seen on that one day, nowhere else.
In celebration of Mozart's 270th birthday and extending from pianist Yunchan Lim's planned complete Mozart Piano Sonata cycle at Carnegie Hall this year, a special Mozart Concerto Project will be presented exclusively in Japan and Korea.
The concert is a masterpiece that fully reflects the choices and opinions of the artist Yunchan Lim himself, from lineup to program. It began with the expectation of what kind of stage we as the audience might encounter if a platform were opened where he could freely plan and showcase his musical ideas—in other words, providing a "blank canvas" where artists can freely express their artistic vision.
The program embodies "artist-driven curation with an orchestral tour that tells a compelling story." Opening with an aria that represents a hidden gem of Mozart—a piece Lim has long wanted to present and served as the conceptual starting point for the entire program—every work features Yunchan Lim's participation, true to the spirit of a concert "by Yunchan Lim, of Yunchan Lim, and for Yunchan Lim." Distinctly different from typical concerto collaborations, will stand out among the countless international orchestra performances visiting Korea, distinguishing itself both in the physical runtime of Yunchan Lim's participation and in content, promising the audience a remarkable 100 minutes powered by the artist's brilliant planning and initiative.
Supporting Yunchan Lim's musical adventure, Camerata Salzburg—the finest Mozart specialists based in Salzburg, Austria, the heart of Mozart's world—joins him in visiting Korea. Their combination with pianist Yunchan Lim promises a deeply anticipated Mozart experience, building on the strong impressions they left on Korean audiences in their previous performances with their meticulous, refined ensemble artistry. Additionally, soprano Lim Sun-hye, representing Korea, will join for the opening aria "Ch'io mi scordi di te," further illuminating this special project. Conductor Suzuki Masato will serve as an excellent mediator throughout the tour in both Japan and Korea, heightening interpretive stability for the all-Mozart program. As the son of Early Music master Suzuki Masaaki and a conductor based primarily in Japan and Europe, Suzuki Masato—Principal Conductor of Bach Collegium Japan, Japan's leading Early Music ensemble—promises close collaboration with Yunchan Lim in realizing Mozart's delicate balance of intellect and emotion.
