About
[SYNOPSIS]
The story begins in June 1950 in a quiet rural village in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, which had been at peace.
A young girl Yeonji, her older brother Yunho, and their friend Jeongwoo smile and dream of the future in the fields of their hometown.
However, with the outbreak of war, their lives are caught in an irreversible whirlwind. Yunho and Jeongwoo volunteer for the military and head to the battlefield, while Yeonji flees as a refugee and faces painful realities.
Fierce battles continue on the front lines, and even as Yunho is captured as a prisoner of war and tortured in extreme circumstances, he leaves behind the words: "The flame of hope never dies." Jeongwoo survives, but suffers from profound loss.
After the war ends, Yeonji, left alone in the ruins of her village, sings yearning for those who have departed. The work concludes with Yeonji's narration and an ensemble chorus sung by all performers.
A song of peace and harmony transcending ideology and generations brings comfort to the victims of the Korean War on June 25.
This work is not a simple war narrative, but rather reflects on the wounds of our era and carries lessons from history that must never be repeated.
Furthermore, through the story of one family, one soldier, and one girl that no one has paid attention to, the audience experiences war as "my story."
'War Requiem - The Flame of Hope' is an art of remembrance and a prayer for the future.
