About

[About the Performance] The series spotlights the composers who shaped the history of salon concerts and their songs. This concert marks the seventh installment—a salon story of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. Felix Mendelssohn, once called the second Mozart. His sister Fanny was likewise regarded as a genius from childhood, equal to her younger brother. Various records left behind confirm that Felix greatly relied on Fanny when composing his works. Yet despite this, Fanny's compositions were often never published under her own name, appearing instead like shadows within Felix's collections. For a long time, history remembered only Felix. However, in recent years, with increased efforts to spotlight female composers and their music, we now frequently encounter her name on the concert stage. Today, we recreate Fanny's Berlin salon—the foundation of all this—where she directly introduced her own music. Through this, we finally present that music, which took flight under her own name, alongside the music of Felix, her musical soulmate. [PROGRAM] * F.
