Midnight in Paris OST Live
Stefan Remvelt is a authentic Gypsy Swing guitarist born in Paris, France and raised in Fontainebleau, known for performing the OST of the film "Midnight in Paris" which is familiar to us. He carries on the tradition of Django Reinhardt, a guitarist of Gypsy origin, and performs Gypsy Swing with two guitars and one bass. This performance is held in commemoration of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea. The Stefan Remvelt Trio aims to infuse their performance with the more traditional and romantic sensibilities of Paris, France, the birthplace of European jazz.
The performance will feature "Bistro Fada," his composition already known through the film "Midnight in Paris," as well as pieces reminiscent of cafés on Parisian streets at night, swing pieces that evoke the nostalgia of bygone days and the spirit of Gypsy jazz popular in the 1920s-30s, and emotionally rich melodies infused with European melancholy. This is an excellent opportunity to directly experience the romance and elegance of Gypsy Jazz, and is an absolute must-see performance for anyone who loves the soundtrack of Midnight in Paris.
A Celebration of the Birthday of Django Reinhardt
Django Reinhardt (January 23, 1910 – May 16, 1953), the founder of "Gypsy Jazz" (or Gypsy Swing), a blend of Gypsy music and swing jazz. Born in Belgium and active based in Paris, France, he is often regarded as "Europe's first great jazz musician." Despite suffering severe burns in a fire that left two fingers of his left hand disabled, he became a legend in jazz guitar through his unique playing technique using only three fingers. Together with the great French-born jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he formed the "Hot Club Quintet," and with his innovative technique and improvisational guitar solos, he influenced countless guitarists and jazz artists for generations to come. The Stefan Remvelt Trio's performance paying tribute to him will transport audiences on a time travel journey to a 1920s-30s Paris jazz club. The Stefan Remvelt Trio's Korean tour, evoking nostalgia for a brilliant and romantic past, is conceived as a celebration of Django Reinhardt's birthday week, and will feature not only classic Gypsy Jazz compositions he left behind but also original compositions influenced by his legacy.
