The Naked King [Geumcheon]

[PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION] The Emperor's New Clothes - Geumcheon The Emperor is a man who loves only the most stylish and beautiful clothes in the world. The courtiers, well aware of the Emperor's vanity, are careful never to wear clothes or shoes of the same color as the King. One day, the Emperor hears a rumor about tailors from a neighboring country who can weave fabulous fabric, and he has them summoned to the palace. The tailors send all the courtiers out of the room and then lie to the Emperor, telling him they can make clothes from fabric invisible to the eyes of others. Moreover, they claim the fabric is visible only to good people and cannot be seen or touched by bad people. Amazed and captivated, the Emperor immediately orders gold and fabric to be given to them. The next day, the tailors return to the palace with the finished clothes. The Emperor and his courtiers, to maintain their status and dignity, claim to see the invisible clothes. Caught in a web of continued flattery and lies, the Emperor wears the clothes he cannot see and sets out on a procession through the provinces. Children waiting to see the Emperor's parade laugh mockingly when they see the King wearing nothing at all, shouting that the Emperor is naked. Suddenly humiliated, the Emperor realizes his own foolishness and laments.
