About

[Performance Introduction] Pianist Yoon Su-young: A Comforting Confession Infused with the Spirit of Schumann Recital in Commemoration of the 170th Anniversary of Schumann's Death "Even 170 years after his passing, Schumann's music represents our inner world most honestly. Through this recital, I wish to share the emotional language that Schumann left behind with you." Pianist Yoon Su-young, who will hold a recital at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts Chamber Hall on February 20th, expressed her profound sentiments about this special stage commemorating the 170th anniversary of Schumann's death. Pianist Yoon Su-young graduated with top honors from the Diploma program at the Fryderyk Chopin National Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, completed her Master's degree in Piano and Chamber Music at Detmold University of Music in Germany, and graduated from the Advanced Performers' Course at the Conservatoire de Cergy in France, where she studied music in the heart of Europe. Through her research of Romanticism, particularly Schumann's music, she experienced his anguish and sorrow, as well as his passion for love and music—which she aims to express vividly in this recital. Schumann sublimated all of his emotions into music without hiding them: his physical and mental limitations, social prejudices, and anxieties stemming from imperfection, all underlying his pure love and passion for music. Schumann's music conveys a positive message that even within imperfection, beauty can be created in modern society where "perfection" is demanded. Through Schumann's works that reveal his honest self unfiltered, pianist Yoon Su-young's journey also becomes a quest to find the true meaning of freedom. This performance will be a meaningful stage that reflects on the "essence of art"—expressing emotions through music.
